Spices Export

Spice exports rose by 12 per cent in volume terms and 9 per cent in value during the first half of the financial year as compared to the corresponding period the previous financial year. Total exports of spices for the period of April- September 2014 period stood at 421,570 tonnes, valued at Rs 6,963 crore which was 56 per cent of the targeted volume and 57 per cent of the targeted value for 2014-15 according to Spices Board, India.

During the same period, export of ginger, cumin,celery and chilli witnessed a marked rise, while that of garlic, nutmeg,fennel, fenugreek and cardamom saw a fall. The volume of ginger exports rose by 41 per cent to reach 8,300 tonnes (valued at Rs 103 crore), while cumin exports increased by 25 per cent to reach 87,500 tonnes (Rs 103 crore).

India is a leader in the world market for spice oils and oleoresin exports which rose by 21 per cent. A total of 5,925 tonnes of these products were exported in April-September 2014, valued at Rs 877 crore.
